Anna Kournikova? Nope, think again, it’s 2006 U.S. Open tennis champion Maria Sharapova, and she has some extra reasons to be happy these days.
Sharapova, who finished the 2006 WTA season ranked second in the world behind Justin-Henin Hardenne, has just added Gatorade, Tropicana, and PepsiCo. to her list of endorsement deals. Along with her winning’s from tournaments, as well as her current list of endorsements that include tennis racket company Prince, Canon, Colgate, Nike, Tag Heuer, and Land Rover, she is now estimated to be hauling in $30 million a year.
“Not only is Maria Sharapova one of the world’s best athletes, but she exemplifies a healthy lifestyle both on and off the court,” PepsiCo senior vice president Ron Coughlin said in a news conference announcing the new deal.
She won five events last year and finished with a 59-9 match record. She has won 15 in tournaments in her career, including two grand slam titles.
She won Wimbledon in 2004 and won the U.S Open last year.
